Our favourite spots: Barmah National Park, VIC
Home to the world’s largest River Red Gum forest and 220 species of native birds, this little piece of paradise is a popular outdoor destination. Fishing, swimming, canoeing, bushwalking and horse riding are some of the activities you can have a crack at. Park your van near the water’s edge and enjoy the iconic river from up close.
Murray Cod, Golden Perch, Cat Fish and Yabbies make for some cracker fishing - however you do need a NSW Freshwater Recreation Fishing Licence if you’re going to fish in the Murray, and a Victoria Recreational Fishing Licence for fishing south of the Murray.
There are also plenty of self-guided walking tracks in the park, ranging from half an hour to just under two hours. Along the way, you can see evidence of Aboriginal and European occupation as well as mature River Red Gum and local wildlife.
If you’re not big on walking, there’s always the option to canoe or kayak your down the river and enjoy the surrounds as you gently drift.
