Our favourite spots: Coolgardie
Once known as the ‘Mother of the Western Australian Gold fields,’ the Outback town of Coolgardie has a fascinating history. In its heyday, Coolgardie was Western Australia’s third largest town, boasting 60 shops, 26 hotels and six banks. Lined with impressive 19th century buildings, you can easily spend a day wandering the streets to learn about the area’s rich pioneering history.
Make sure to pop into the Goldfields and Coolgardie Museum in the Mining Warden’s court for a glimpse at all the goings-on during Coolgardie’s early days. Believe it or not, even the Pharmacy Museum is worth a go, there’s plenty of early 18th and 19th century medicines that are surprisingly interesting to have a look at.
Fancy riding a camel? The Coolgardie Camel Farm is a few ticks west and is plenty of fun for leisurely camel rides and overnight treks.
