WA Arts, History and Culture Route

There are just so many different places to explore in WA, it’s hard to know where to start, or end for that matter. Fortunately, there are plenty of driving routes to help guide you to all the top destinations and the WA Arts, History and Culture Route is right amongst the best.

It can take you a couple of days to finish this route, even weeks if you really want to take it all in.

Perth to Albany

Your trip begins in Perth and continues 420km south to Kojonup, home to the historic Old Military Barracks, before arriving in Albany, which is blessed with a Mediterranean climate and awesome natural attractions.

Albany to Pemberton

From Albany, travel another 240km west through Denmark and Walpole to have a look at the local art and check out the Pemberton Wine Region. This is a must-see for wine lovers and foodies. This small wine region has quickly emerged as one of Australia’s most exciting wine producers – home to several drop-dead gorgeous vineyards that adjoin Karri forests. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are a specialty in this region.

Pemberton to Margaret River

The second leg of this mini wine tour takes you from the young Pemberton Wine Region towards the more established Margaret River. You’re guaranteed to take a few bottles of its cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay with you along your journey.

Margaret River to Busselton

Over the next four days, before returning to Perth, you’ll travel another 355km, passing through the Aboriginal Cultural Centres, regional art galleries and historic towns like Busselton – where you can go eight meters below the water’s surface and into the Busselton Jetty’s Underwater Observatory.
