A household name for AFL fans, Rory Sloane is no stranger to adventure. After a stellar 16-season career on the field, the former Adelaide Football Club captain and dual Malcolm Blight Medallist recently traded the footy boots for a life of outdoor exploration. Growing up in the Dandenong Ranges in Melbourne, Rory was surrounded by nature from an early age, spending his childhood camping, surfing, and discovering all that the great outdoors has to offer. His love for adventure and the ocean followed him throughout his football career, with weekends often spent surfing the rugged coastline of South Australia.
“Surfing was my reset button,” Rory says. “Even when life was hectic with footy schedules, I always found time to chase adventure. Life for me has always been about doing the things I love, and now that my wife and I have three beautiful children, we do the same with them.”
Dad to Sonny, Bodhi, and Summer, Rory’s passion for adventure has only grown, but this time it’s all about sharing those experiences with his family. “Camping brings me back to my childhood. There’s something magical about watching your kids explore the world around them, discovering animals, grabbing the bikes and going for a ride. It’s that sense of adventure that I want to give them, just like I had growing up.”
